The Sinemurian-Pliensbachian Boundary Event (SPBE) was a global perturbation of the carbon cycle occurred in the Early Jurassic. The causal mechanisms behind the SPBE remain unclear. Geochemical evidence, including δ13Corg, Hg abundance and isotopic composition, suggest a potential link between the SPBE and volcanic activity associated to rifting and the breakup of Pangea.
